Modular Cardboard Sculpture
I started this project by cutting a bow tie shape out of cardboard. As the directions stated, I traced that shape thirteen more times to have fourteen identical shapes total. After I had all my shapes cut out I tried to assemble them in any way to create my first sculpture, however they weren't stable enough to stand on their own. Next I added notches to the right side of every shape so they now had a way to link together. I found that once I added the notches, it was very easy to assemble the shapes in the different ways above. All night yesterday, and during my classes to day I could not figure out what shape to do. In lunch today my friend gave me a can of Pringles, and on the Pringles can the face wears a bow tie, so that is how I came up with the bow tie shape. I thought this project was a great intro to sculpture. Already I have learned what negative space is! I think I would have loved this project even more if we got to paint our pieces, but I do understand the time constraint were under. On to the next project !
